About
I do research in both natural and artificial intelligence. This requires both science and engineering.
As a scientist, I specialize in distributed intelligence and interacting learning systems, for both individuals and societies. I started out modelling individual intelligence, where I specialize in modular learning systems, everyday action selection and goal arbitration. Recently I have extended this interest to include social cognition and culture --- the evolution and distribution of intelligence through a population.
As an engineer, I provide integration, structure and action selection for intelligent & cognitive systems. These include robotics, intelligent environments, virtual reality and video game agents. My engineering research focus is on making human-like AI easier to build and to maintain. The methodology I've developed is called Behavior Oriented Design, which includes POSH action selection.
All of my models, software and papers are available on line, see my home page.
