Loizos Pelecanos
Dr Loizos Pelecanos MEng (Hons) ACGI PhD DIC FHEA MIMarEST was appointed as a Lecturer in Civil Engineering (Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering) at the University of Bath in July 2016. His research expertise is in Computational Mechanics & Dynamics.
He graduated from Imperial College London with a MEng in Civil Engineering (2009) and a PhD in Computational Earthquake Engineering (2013). He subsequently worked for 3.5 years (2013-2016) as a Post-doctoral Research Associate in Civil Engineering at the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC) at the University of Cambridge. He has been a Member of the Editorial Board of Computers & Geotechnics journal since 2017.
His doctoral research work at Imperial College concentrated on computational seismic analysis of earth dams and included extensive static and dynamic nonlinear finite element analyses and studies of dynamic dam-reservoir interaction, for both concrete and earth dams, in particular during earthquakes.
His subsequent post-doctoral research work at Cambridge was concerned with innovative distributed fibre-optic sensing of civil structures and soil-structure interaction (SSI) problems, along with relevant numerical analysis using appropriate finite element models. He co-authored a textbook on fibre-optic sensing of civil infrastructure.
At the University of Bath he supervised work mainly on Computational Mechanics, related to Geothermal Energy Piles, Structural Dynamics of Offshore Wind Turbines, Embodied Carbon, Earthquake Engineering and Structural Design Optimisation.
Supervisors: Kenichi Soga, Starvroula Kontoe, and Lidija Zdravkovic
